Who’s in the Green Chair?
Kalmar is finalising its decades-long electrification odyssey this year – and we invite you to join us for this exhilarating ride!
In 2018, Kalmar pledged to make its portfolio fully electric by 2021. The journey that started already in the 1980’s is now about to be completed: the last piece of the puzzle, so to speak, is the heavy capacity range mobile equipment that will be electrified by the end of the year.
Stefan Lampa, President, Kalmar Mobile Solutions, points out that “going electric” is critical from the perspective of the big climate picture.
”We’ve come to the tipping point in understanding that the climate is changing due to the way we live our lives. Introduction of the electric solution is key to bringing down CO2 emissions,” he says.
Rewrite the rules
Kalmar is “breaking the laws of gravity” in its push for full electrification. “We’re able to improve sustainability and drive safety in the right direction – and, at the same time, make our customers more productive,” Lampa says.
Alf Gunnar Karlgren, Vice President, Counterbalanced Container Handlers, is leading the team that is responsible for developing a fully electric reachstacker, scheduled to be launched later this year. He agrees that the stars are, indeed, aligning in Kalmar’s favour:
“The technology is mature, the customer need is evident and there is a global awareness of the importance of cutting CO2 emissions,” he says.
“Furthermore, we have a really eager, engaged Kalmar team who wants to get this right.”
“We’re able to improve sustainability and drive safety in the right direction – and, at the same time, make our customers more productive.”
Take a seat!
To celebrate the running of this final lap of the e-race, Kalmar is introducing a new collaborative concept called Green Chair. In essence, the Green Chair is a vehicle that carries the company’s conversations on eco-efficient solutions, from its customers’ point of view.“Under the Green Chair concept, we’re able to discuss sustainability and eco-efficiency in a constructive manner while listening to different voices and views,” says Maija Eklöf, Vice President, Marketing and Communication at Kalmar.
Sitting in the Green Chair are customers and other stakeholders, as well as top-notch experts from Kalmar.

Wanted: open discussion
Starting in May 2021, videos will be published from the Green Chair about once a month throughout the year, along with a Green Chair webinar series in 2021.
As the Green Chair “heats up,” a variety of issues are likely to pop up: for instance, how to get started with eco-efficient operations and choose the right eco-efficient solutions to address customers’ short and long-term needs; what are the potential implications for the infrastructure; how to ensure that investments hit their financial and sustainability targets over their lifetime; what exactly can Kalmar do to secure a more eco-efficient future for its customers?
“The Green Chair is a place where people can frankly and honestly present perspectives on the subject at hand – and is an important venue for taking the cause of electrification and eco-efficiency forward. There is a definite focus on solving the industry challenges together,” Eklöf sums up.
