Kalmar introduces new Rail Mounted Gantry Crane
Kalmar has introduced a new range of highly adaptable, automation-ready Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes (RMG), that are suited to both intermodal terminals and container ports.
Today's container terminals need to address a wide range of challenges to stay competitive. Supersized vessels, high transshipment ratios, increased vessel automation, traffic congestion and on-demand consuming require terminals to not only increase their peak capacity, but also to maintain predictable throughput around the clock, every day of the year.
The new Kalmar RMGs are designed to help intermodal terminals and container ports meet these demands, maintain maximum productivity and prepare for an automated future. The cranes are equally suited to new sites and existing operations, and can be combined with Kalmar horizontal transportation or mobile equipment to deliver a complete end-to-end container handling solution. The cranes are ready for automation and/or remote operation, and can be flexibly automated by adding features incrementally.
“Customers can increase the capacity of their terminals with high reliability, proven technology and consistent performance."
"We are excited to put new focus on the intermodal market with our brand-new RMG. In designing this product, we have leveraged our experience of over 40 years in rail-mounted cranes and over 20 years in port and terminal automation. We have delivered various cantilever RMGs to intermodal terminals since the 1970s, and Kalmar Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes are commonly used in intermodal terminals, especially in Europe. With this renewed Kalmar RMG product our intermodal terminal customers can increase the capacity of their terminals with high reliability, proven technology and consistent performance," says Timo Alho, Vice President, Intelligent Crane Solutions, Kalmar.
Industry-leading features
The Kalmar RMG is a high-volume container handling system suited to both port and intermodal operations. Kalmar RMGs have a rail span of 20 to 55 metres, a lifting capacity of up to 65 tonnes, an outreach of up to 18 metres and can stack up to a height of one over six containers. The RMGs utilise the field-proven technology that is already available in Kalmar's fifth-generation automatic stacking cranes (ASCs). The cranes have highly effective electric drive units that provide exceptionally smooth operation and have zero emissions at source.
The RMGs feature a low-profile trolley with or without slewing and a robust eight-rope reeving system that does not require additional anti-sway ropes or mechanisms. The state-of-the-art fully electric headblock is coupled with a Bromma spreader with anti-truck lifting detection. All crane features are designed for comfortable access and easy maintenance.
