Super Gloria, a versatile and highly efficient machine
Richardson Stevedoring & Logistics was founded in 1969 as a direct discharge and storage operation at the Port of Houston. Today, it owns and operates multiple sites with a focus on stevedoring, transport and logistics across intercoastal water systems. The company has been a Kalmar client for over 10 years.
"The cranes can be used in different parts of the facility. They’re more versatile, can stack in the yard as well as work with the barges," says Kelly Richardson, Richardson Stevedoring & Logistics Port Of Houston, Texas, USA.
The challenge
Richardson Stevedoring was looking for a flexible and versatile machine from Kalmar that could increase productivity and deliver exceptional levels of safety for their drivers.
The machine needed to be able to load and unload barges quickly and safely, to meet the increased demand expected from the Panama Canal expansion project. Plus, handle steel and containers and be easily deployed to other tasks within their operations when needed.
The solution
To meet Richardson Stevedoring’s needs, Kalmar delivered its first Super Gloria reachstacker to the terminal in November 2016. The Kalmar Super Gloria is counterweighted in such a way that it can work four wide and four deep with barges, handling loads up to 40 tons in the third row and 27 tons in the fourth. Fitted with an up and down cab and a rear detection camera system, it makes loading and unloading barges easier and a lot safer.
The result
With positive feedback from drivers, Super Gloria has proven itself as a highly versatile, safe machine. Its heavy lifting ability and various attachments allow it to be deployed beyond loading and unloading barges, handling heavy steel coils with ease and, when needed, stacking containers in the yard.
“The Super Gloria is special because of all its safety features and the maneuverability to access cargo quickly and safely. I would recommend Super Gloria to other operators in the same kind of industry” - Kelly Richardson.
